In July of 2001, the first seminar of Capoeira in Athens was conducted. The seminar was organised by Master Ediandro (founder ofthe Association Banzo de Senzala) and lasted
for ten days. It was the first time Master Ediandro was visiting Athens, a city in which there was no Capoeira school until then. Master Ediandro arrived with his student, Formado Manel, who assisted him in the seminar.
The seminar was very popular as more than 35 people attended the workshops held. Both Traditional Capoeira Angola and techniques of contemporary Capoeira Regional were taught and demonstated. Master Ediandro and Formado Manel performed in various clubs, such as Club 22, to demonstrate their skills and promote this Brazilian art.
As a result, September of 2001, Master Ediandro sent his student, Formado Manel, to continue his project, teaching Capoeira in Athens, Greece. The first Academy in Athens, Banzo de Senzala Atenas, was founded as an official extension and part of the Association of Master Ediandro in Barcelona.
Since 2001, the Academy of Capoeira in Athens, Banzo de Senzala Atenas, is conducting seminars and workshops allover Greece, teaching to kids and adults,
